About Me
Hello, my name is Maria Teresa. I am a psychologist and coach for parents/adults, children, and adolescents.
My passion for psychology started after I had a positive experience with psychotherapy as a child. This positive experience, led me to choose Psychology as a study subject during the last years of high school. I then decided to study Psychology at University and then specialize in Child and Adolescent Psychology.
I always look to be up to date in regards of what is being done to help parents, children, and adolescents. This is how I came across Coaching for families. I got very interested in how the Coaching Method can help parents identify and manage the changes that need to be made, to improve the communication and the relationship with their children. Coaching can also help the members of a family identify their needs and goals and come up with strategies to achieve those goals. This is done through dialogues between the coach and the client during which the client becomes quickly more aware of the way he or she interacts with others and understands the recurring behaviours he or she adopts. Coaching is based on the Socratic Method, Systemic and Positive Psychology and is more adapted to the modern life. For that reason I acquired a certification in coaching in order to use it as a method to help parents and their children.
My experience as an expat
It all started when I moved with my mother from Venezuela to France. I spent my childhood and adolescence between Caracas and Paris and between these two cultures. Since then, I have lived in New York City, Düsseldorf, Reading (UK) and Birmingham (UK). Currently I live in The Hague. Living in different countries and amongst different cultures has not only allowed me to learn different languages but has also made me a more culturally aware, open, and adaptable person. It has been a very enriching experience. Today I can say I understand quite well the challenges an expat child or an expat parent can be going through.
